Devon wakes up from an accident convinced that his roommate Elian is his boyfriend. The doctor says to go along with it—so Elian plays along, gets called “baby,” held every night, and forced to say “husband.” But every time Devon gets close, Elian’s heart nearly stops. Because none of it feels fake. Devon liked him before the accident. When Devon recovers and his eyes go cold again, Elian braces to be pushed away—but Devon grabs his wrist and says, “I liked you from the first time I saw you freshman year.” The false memories were never a lie. They were just the courage Devon never had.
