Marcus's family was convinced that Adrian would never wake up and that Evelyn was just a crazy wife hired with money, so they bullied the couple, tried to force them to hand over control of the group, and even wanted to send her back to a mental hospital. Only when Adrian recovered and retook power did they realize he had been conscious all along, remembering every humiliation and coercion they had thrown in his face—and in the end, the couple joined forces to settle scores with them, completely shattering their dreams of seizing power.
