Timothy, a military veteran, is diagnosed with terminal liver cancer. Knowing he doesn't have much time left, he leaves behind his wife, Sharon, and their young daughter, Lila. Before his death, he gives Lila the phone number of his former brother-in-arms, Clay, telling her to call him if she ever finds herself in trouble.
After Timothy dies, local gang boss Randy continues to harass Sharon and Lila. He even crashes Timothy's memorial, humiliating the grieving family and destroying the funeral setup. With nowhere else to turn, Lila calls the number her father left her—never realizing that the man on the other end is Clay himself.
