Mara Bennett, the new ER resident everyone calls a lazy nepotism hire,
gets an ultimatum from her chief: one more mistake and she's fired. But the
""""slacker"""" is a hidden genius—she catches a liver laceration and a vascular anomaly
no one else saw, reads a concealed third-degree heart block in a flatline and brings
back a patient her chief had already given up on, and matches the diagnosis of a
30-year teaching-hospital veteran. After reviewing every case she's handled with
zero errors, the chief withdraws the firing threat: the ER can't afford to lose her. And
the director's cryptic warning hints at a secret far bigger than anyone knows.
