Lingering Shadow

Katherine Blackwood, a brilliant art restorer from a fallen noble family, is seized by her family's archrival, the ruthless investor Julian Sterling, in the wake of her husband Alexander's mysterious fatal car accident. Under the pretext of crushing debt, Julian imprisons her in the Sterling family's penthouse, forcing her to work as his personal assistant and infiltrate the very heart of the dynasty.

While sorting through her late husband's belongings, Katherine discovers the crash was no accident—hydraulic pincer marks on the brake fragments point directly to Julian's father, Thomas Sterling. As her investigation deepens, a sinister conspiracy network called "The Contract" emerges: debt, neuroactive drugs, and mind control—Thomas has gripped the city's financial and political lifelines through this system.

From hunter and prey, Katherine and Julian gradually forge a dangerous alliance. They uncover a devastating truth: Katherine's mother and Julian's mother were the original architects of "The Contract," but after betraying Thomas, one was imprisoned for twenty years while the other had her consciousness erased.

Katherine faces an impossible choice: destroy "The Contract" or save her mother. In the end, she deciphers the pocket watch her mother left behind in her own way, releasing the frequency that holds Julian's mother's imprisoned soul—and setting that captive spirit free.

Amid the ruins, she learns one thing: just keep moving forward.
