Rowan Veyne, an ancient guardian spirit, promised the dying Margaret Whitmore to protect her granddaughter Clara for seven years. To stabilize the company's board, Clara marries Rowan, whom everyone dismisses as a useless kept husband. In truth, Rowan secretly secures all of Clara's business wins and rescues her from danger—yet Julian Crest, her old flame and new consultant, steals the credit. Blinded by prejudice, Clara ignores Rowan's warnings. When the seven years end, Rowan hands her divorce papers and leaves. Then Whitmore's partnerships collapse one by one, and Clara begins uncovering Rowan's hidden identity.
