Once the strongest rope guide of the Sacred Mountain, Evelyn was framed after an avalanche by the beloved Saintess Celeste, who claimed Evelyn cut the rescue rope and left her crippled. Her fiancé, Duke Adrian, believed the lie. For three years, Evelyn knelt on frozen steps to pay for her brother Noah’s medicine and keep the orphanage alive. On the final step, Adrian orders her to kneel and lick Celeste’s boots. Then a black raven arrives with Noah’s death notice. With nothing left to lose, Evelyn tears up the atonement contract and drags the Saintess’s perfect lie into the light.
