On her engagement day, Maya stood on the ceremony stage and was doused head-to-toe with pink cake. Her fiancé Adrian’s friend publicly announced it was nothing but a bet, to see whether she would truly believe she could marry into wealth. Adrian sat in the audience, watching coldly without a single word of protest. Maya realized her boyfriend, her best friend, and practically everyone else had known it was a scam. Only she had mistaken the lie for her future. Amid the crowd’s jeering laughter, instead of breaking down, she called Ethan, heir to the Moretti family — the mafia successor who controlled the city’s underground businesses and had earnestly pursued her, only to be rejected. She turned and chose him. Thus begins a tangled story of revenge and genuine love.
