Catherine once refused the Wolf alliance to marry Charles, who loved only her sister Elena. When Charles died clutching Elena's Heartscale, Catherine chose death — and woke reborn on the day she was ordered to the Wolves. This time, she let go of Charles and volunteered to go north. Charles, ignorant, kept hurting her for Elena — until her heart died. In the frozen Wolf Kingdom, brutal King Cain tested her; she earned his respect and offered her Heartscale for peace between their races. On his wedding night, Charles learned the truth — Catherine had saved him, not Elena. He raced north to reclaim her, but Catherine met him with cold indifference. He lost her forever. Catherine and Cain united. Wolves and Elves swore eternal peace.
